Best armor for warriors right now?
We have the:
Regular
---
Ringmail Armor
Soldier's Armor
Chainmail Armor
all of which are standard 80 AL and +20 AL versus physical, which, IMO is useless now.
Damage Reduce
---
Ascalon's Armor
Knight's Armor
Now with the AL vs. physical 20 instead of 10, this is pretty good now, especially if your going for looks.
Energy
---
Gladiator's Armor
This is the regular armor but with extra energy, which makes this one of the top ones.
90 AL
---
Platemail Armor
Wyvern's Armor
Dragon's Armor
Dreadnought's Armor
IMO, with the increase of armor to 90, these are probably the best armor avaliable, you get 10 more AL vs. physical than the others.
HP
---
Berserker's Armor
This is probably second to the 90 AL armors, it still has the +20 vs. physical so it's still 90 vs. physical but not ele, but instead, you get a boost of 35 hp.
13 Strength
---
Sentinel's Armor
Not sure about this, you have to have 13 strength for it to become useful...but then again, if you have that...
Stance
---
Legionnaire's Armor
With this you get +10 AL in stance along with the standard +20 AL vs. physical. It's obviously best for runners and if you use stances, well...yeah.
So which is best? (not in terms of looks)
either the 90AL ones, the health one, or gladiators...or legionnaires.

i prefer the legionnaire set, while in stance you have 90AL + 20 vs physical

I don't know if it's best or not. I use Gladiators chest and leggs, with a +Sword helm, Knights boots, and Berserkers gloves.

I think the best is still gladiator's set + a piece of ascalon/knight

Shadow - in the future Anet will update old items for free (in game money I mean )
Anyway, since I ettin/troll farm, I went for the legionnaires armor. I icy imp farm now and then and I'm also in stance, so win win ^^

Here's my take on it...
ringmail/chainmail whatever
Not sure but:
80vs all
100 vs physical
This is the standard armour. Collectors etc... It has the most basic stats and no bonuses. Seeing how all other armours have MORE stats than this, this armour is the worst unless you're using sentinels with less than 13str.
_________________________
Gladiators:
80vs all
100 vs physical
Energy + 7 (full set)
Basic armour+7 energy. A warrior has 2 pips of energy regen. The +5 to 7 energy will only be used at the start of a fight. Another scenario is when the warrior uses skills that need 25 energy to cast. However, with the new energy+5 weapons, this may not be that much a problem.
This armour is good if you need the energy. There's no other advantage other than the energy.
If you include the +5 energy weapons then the +energy is only good at the very beginning of the fight. Once those 5 energy are gone, this set is basically the same as the chainmail sets unless you let the energy regen...
_________________________
Ascalon/knights:
80 vs all
100 vs physical
damage reduction -2 (now this depends on what you're doing. It could result in the equivalent of +10 AL or more. But it depends)
The damage reduction still is global so this set is useless right now.
If damage reduction wasnt global and someone was to use this set then it might be a good choice for a tanker.
I guess it would be similar to platemail then.
_________________________
Plate/wyvern/dragon/dreadnaught
90 vs all
100 vs physical
Highest AL of all armours and it doesn't have any requirements.
The only set that can outperform it is the sentinel at 13 str. But the req on sentinel is what makes it worse than plate imo.
_________________________
Berzerkers
80 vs all
100 vs physical
hp+35 (full set)
I don't see the point of this set
_________________________
legionaires
80 vs all
100 vs physical
but when in stance:
90 vs all
110 vs physical
standard stats unless you're ina stance.
If you're a stancetank or if you're in a stance a lot, then this would be the armour of choice I guess.
If you get wildblowed, you'll still have just a normal set of armour so this set doesn't work everywhere.
_________________________
Sentinel
100 vs all
requires 13 str
imo, the strreq is too high. It will dictate your build since you'll always need to bring at least 13 str. I don't like it but it looks nice
_________________________
If I were to vote on the best allround all-purpose armourset, I'd pick Dragons with ascalon boots (which I have =P)
It doesn't have any requirements, has extra defense vs elemental, chaos whatever damage and I like having armour that has the name of a huge battleship =D
imo, all armours except plate are situation-dependent or whatever you call it

I know that ascalon damage reduction is global, meaning you can pick up some boots and get extra damage reduction. Is however, the +armour while in a stance global for legionnaires... if so it might be worth picking up a stray piece for an extra boost.

The way I see it, the more armor, the better. No current amount of absorption can compete with +20 armor and it's damage-halving effect.

If Str heavy, go sentinel. Nothing beats 100 armor vs everything
If not str heavy, go Plate/wyvern/dragon/dreadnaught
100 vs physical but only 90 vs elemental.

True if you live in a vacuum. But that would suck
There's a reason a lot of us love Zealous particularly with area attacks, it gets around this. 20 energy bites, this helps. Normally some Glads is quite useful. Arguably more than a little more conditional armor particularly with some builds - it becomes almost moot at a certain point.
There are reasons it's one of the most popular armors.

You definately take one piece right now.
There's talk this might be changing where it won't be global anymore (or that it might even already not be on Cantha sets ). That'd be a HUGE change. Either way I'm still hoping they make chp1 armor work like chp2 at vendors soon - remove form from function, then you might see more of these armors in full set. As everyone knows these pieces do NOT mix and match well at all, unless you went half-naked (Glads) and that is just 'ok'

Lots of attacks ignore armor, including all degen.
You already have a lot of armor. Maybe you popped on a superior rune too.
Extra +hp always is never a bad thing and 35 isn't something to entirely blow off.
